Elevation Certificate
What is an Elevation Certificate?
The Flood Elevation Certificate is an important tool of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The Flood Elevation Certificate verifies the elevation data of a structure on a given property relative to the ground level or elevations of flood levels determined by FEMA.
Why is it Important?
The Elevation Certificate is used by local communities and builders to ensure compliance with local floodplain management ordinances and is also used by insurance agents and companies in the rating of flood insurance policies.
An elevation certificate is a vehicle for homeowners to validate or disprove the flood zone classification assigned to your property by FEMA .
If some of your neighbors have been successful in changing the flood zone classification by undertaking a elevation certificate with a licensed land surveyor, then perhaps this is something you should consider. While there are no guarantees, an elevation certificate is a pro-active step in terms of understanding whether you could benefit from some cost savings on your flood insurance premium.
How can TKM Land Surveyors Help?
TKM Land Surveyors have helped clients in many Bay Area cities to reduce and/or eliminate their flood zone insurance. However, the clients TKM has helped have recouped the costs of the elevation in 6 months to 1 year.
All the necessary forms required by FEMA and/or your insurance company are prepared by TKM Land Surveyors. In the event the survey findings definitively place your property outside the flood zone, then we will prepared a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) and send this to FEMA for processing.
